Inspector Chandana Sinha is a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer who has led the rescue of more than 1,500 children across Uttar Pradesh's railway network over the past three years. At 41, she is also the mother of an 11-year-old daughter. The key moment came in 2022 at New Delhi Railway Station during the chaos of Chhath Puja. Thousands of travellers filled the platforms when a frantic mother realised her three-year-old child was missing in the crowd. That moment changed everything for Chandan. Chandana led Operation "Nanhe Farishte", an Indian Railways' child protection initiative. Instead of relying only on routine patrols, she built a system. Officers were trained to identify subtle behavioural signals. Informer networks were developed with vendors, porters, and station staff. Partnerships were formed with NGOs and child-protection groups.
Recruitment is conducted through examinations administered by the Railway Recruitment Board.
Retired RPF Officers and Constables are well-equipped to venture into private security management, railway logistics consultancy, transport safety training academies, or anti-trafficking awareness NGOs. Their profound knowledge of passenger safety laws, railway operations, and emergency response makes them valuable advisors to private rail operators, metro corporations, and logistics firms. Government resettlement schemes and welfare funds provide a financial cushion for officer-entrepreneurs to establish their ventures with confidence.
No category of differently-abled person is presently eligible for reservation as an RPF Officer/SI under the RPwD Act for executive RPF posts
