T. M. Krishna began training in Carnatic music at age six and gave his first solo concert at twelve at Madras Music Academy. Trained under the legendary Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, he became one of India's most celebrated vocalists. Beyond performance, he has dedicated himself to making classical music accessible to all – through teaching, writing, and initiatives like "Voices Within", which brings Carnatic music to marginalised and underserved communities who rarely get to experience it. Recognised globally for using music as a tool for social change, he received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2016 and the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi in 2024 – proving that true artistry lies not just in mastering a tradition, but in having the courage to open it up to everyone.
A Music Teacher can build a successful independent practice by offering private vocal or instrumental lessons at home, running a neighbourhood music studio, conducting group classes for children and adults, providing online music coaching via platforms like Zoom or YouTube, creating digital music learning content, and performing or composing on a freelance basis. With consistent branding, social media presence, and a focus on results-driven teaching, a small studio can grow into a full-fledged music school or online academy.
